Why so long?

I am a bit over an hour in and I can definitively say the first third of this film could have been reduced by 1/2 easily in terms of running time. From what I am reading here, the book delves into the characters much more. It seems odd the film is not doing that even given the length. The filmmakers wasted time on repetitive nonsense.

God bless America and the 2nd amendment. If any outside force tried to occupy our nation they would be slaughtered. These people let the tanks roll in and then have lunch as if nothing happened.

Is the second amendment the one about the right to bear RPGs, backpack nukes, flame-throwers and anti-tank mines, provided that they're not concealed?

I guess it must be, because you won't be slaughtering many tank commanders with conventional rifles and hand guns, unless you catch the devils at the pay window of a McDonald's tank drive thru'.

After checking the Wikipedia, I discovered (my emphasis):

.. we interpret .. “Arms.” The term was applied, then as now, to weapons that were not specifically designed for military use and were not employed in a military capacity. Thus, the most natural reading of “keep Arms” in the Second Amendment is to “have weapons.”

From this, it seems clear that RPGs and flame-throwers and anti-tank mines and armour-piercing shells and even backpack nukes are all proscribed by this amendment! Once again, the law has failed to keep pace with technology.

Dammit, if the second amendment is to be any deterrent to tank-driving, foreign invaders, rather than just petty crims hell-bent on some piffling property crime, then the NRA must get the amendment updated.

Just imagine having a 50kT nuke [1] around the house! Cool! And harmless, because nukes don't kill people; people do.

[1] Naturally, nukes should be kept in a locked box and only sold to people who have been trained in the safe use of nuclear weapons in the urban tactical environment. A three day cooling-off period should apply before any nuclear weapon is sold.
