Kristy
Attitude and accent aside, Kristy McNicol was HOT.
"They sucked his brains out!"
Kristy now has "come out": biggest non-surprise of 2012.
The lovely KM had way more chemistry with Tatum O'Neal
than with Matt Dillon (in Little Darlings), and way more
with Sherilyn Fenn in 2 Moon than KM did with Perry.
(SF & Perry, now...esp the Breakfast scene...)
One of the most average looking woman I've seen, and was 'HOT'.
shareIt's a shame that McNicol gave up acting, as there was always a 'real' undercurrent of emotion and feeling that shone through her features and she was also a very natural and radiant actress. She gives me a pang of nostalgia, for the 70's and early 80's, when I think of her. Her presence in TMJ, is welcome and her performance in LITTLE DARLINGS-80', is one of the best coming of age turns I can recall. She helps elevate the film.
shareFor her, it wasn't even a choice; she said her manic-depression was too difficult to continue as an actress. Then we have Patty Duke, whose work was supposedly her escape from the pain
shareThe ball of light, that I saw in McNicol, must have diminished. It is perplexing, that someone so radiant, could be a manic-depressant. She was a very emotional actress and must've worn her heart on her sleeve. Some people, can have a tendency to take on the pain of the world, as well as their own. I saw the same in Lena Zavaroni.
shareI don't when the onset was. With Duke ,is was around 20 yrs old. But if McNicol is medicated for the illness, you'd think she would able to manage being an actress. Maybe medication doesn't always work well-enough on manic-depression patients.
shareI can only find this on the IMDB trivia about McNicol:
Dropped out of acting because she was sick and tired of acting, wanted to have an average life, and one thing she pursued was going to school to learn how to style hair.
the story changes, then, when told by a 3rd party (trivia). I heard she works for an insurance co. However, I don't think she was meant to be a (leading lady) movie-star, but a TV film actress.

____________
I don't either; but was good as support and a character actress. T.V or film, she did prove she could do both. The line is blurred now and she may have just lost a passion for acting. Kim Richards, may have felt the same, as it was around the same time McNicol dropped of the radar. Were the offers coming in, I wonder?
Since her last 3 films either flopped (White Dog not released), that was a factor. On the link I sent, it details her path
shareIf you felt that way about her and what she was willing to do in this movie, be sure to see Just The Way You Are (uncut) too.
