In no way DeVito could pass for a 35 years old guy

Arnold was 40 during filming but with some suspension of desbelief he could pass for a 35 years old, he looked good & he still was in his prime, but DeVito was 43 & looked like he was pushing 50's... not even close as credible playing a 35 years old.

Well he had an hard life of stress.Dodging loan sharks and women's husbands probably put a few years on him.

And he was just the crap that was left over in the experiment.

I never questioned it.

"Mr. Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

He didn't look all that youthful when he was on Taxi, either.

DeVito looked 45 and Arnold maybe 38. Arnold is also over a foot taller and has an Austrian accent. In the end it all worked to make a good comedy

Like if Malcolm McDowell passed for a 15 years old when he was 27 in A Clockwork Orange, or Linda Cardellini passed for a 17 years old when she was 24 in Freaks and Geeks. Sometimes, directors take older actors to play younger characters (or the other way around) and there can be various reasons: the actor fits the role in the way the director picture the character, it would be inappropriate to take an actor who has the age of the character in the role, the said actor is friend with the producers/director, they know that he would do the job effectively, etc.

Yes, sometimes it buggers me as well but I understand that if such a choice had been made, there was a reason behind it.

I haven't seen Twins for a long time so I don't quite remember how much it was obviois in that case but well it's the end of the world.

"Devito was born looking 60."
He even looked old in One Flew over the cuckoo's nest which came out 13 years before this movie.
