22 years ago an older man told me a story...

About 22 years ago I was just out of high school and working in a sports clothing store part time. I had an elderly woman co-worker who would always get dropped off and picked up by her husband (I'd say they were in their late 70's). Anyway, he found out through her that I was a "car" guy so one day when he came to pick up his wife he started a conversation about cars with me. He started telling me about all the different cars he had owned over the years and he wanted to test my knowledge. He told me that when he was younger he owned a Hudson Hornet. He said he'd gotten it because it was the fastest thing on the road. One night he said he had a car coming up on him from behind, but being a hot blooded young man he wasn't going to let any one pass his Hudson Hornet. So he mashed the accelerator and took off... but that car behind him kept gaining on him. He said he was dumbfounded because nothing could top the Hudson Hornet. Then it blew by him he said like he was sitting still. He then asks me, "You know what kind of car that was?"

And my instant reply was "A Tucker Torpedo".

Well his chin hit the floor. He couldn't believe I knew about the Tucker as they'd only built 50 or so of them. Little did he know I'd seen this film.

That is a great story.

I didn't even know this was based on a true story and a real car.

All the promotion around this movie highlighted the fact that it was based on a true story.
