Share your stories of Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller.

Hello there, I am working with the director of this wonderful movie Micheal Rubbo to collect stories of how fans of Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler discovered this film, how this film affected or molded your child hood and share any special memories they have.

If you have any special stories you would like to share, please feel free to join in and reply!

I'll start by sharing my story. Hopefully you enjoy it and it temps you to join in :)

Back in 1994, a few months after my brother was born. I myself barely 5 years old, sat with my family eating Skips (A fairly popular British snack food) watching TV early one evening. We were going through the Sky Movie channels and happened upon Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler. I was instantly enthralled with it. So much so that my parents had to check the TV listings and find when or if the movie would be on again (Sky Movies have a tendency to show movies several times a week). Eventually it came on again early in the morning, which meant my dad stayed up late to record it on our VCR. The video would provide many many memories. Not only for me, but for my brother and my cousin. Every time she would visit she would ask my parents if they would put it on. 'Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies' became a favourite line to repeat for the both of us.
Fast forward to 1995, I was traveling on a train with my father and by a stroke of luck he happened to spot The Return of Tommy Tricker listed to appear on Sky Movies in two weeks. Both of were ecstatic and couldn't wait. We all sat around the TV and watched with anticipation. Sadly it didn't live up to expectations due to so many changes, but it was recorded on video and kept aswell.
Around the same time I would go to Car Boot Sales (Markets in Britain that are similar to Flea Markets) with my parents and I picked up an interest in buying stamps. I would buy any and all I could find, on the off chance I could find one of the ones used in the original movie. I had a draw in my bedroom full of stamps, most of which I had no idea I had bought. One day I sat on my bed and sorted through them. To my surprise in a mass of stamps I found a gem, the 36c Kangaroo stamp from Australia. I looked at it every day for as long as I could remember.
Eventually we moved houses, and along the way my stamps were lost. Heartbroken I stopped buying, but the videos remained with me, all the way until 2005.

When my brother was around 6, we began playing the Stamp Traveler game. We would place an item upstairs and one of us would have to take the item, run downstairs and touch the back door with it. The other person would then have to stop them and take control of touching the back door. All the while we would sing I'm a Runnin' to which we had both memorized after many years of viewing the video recording. A simple game but we had years of enjoyment playing it sporadically.

During my first year of college, I began to use ebay more and more. This lead to me buying both films on DVD, both of which will always remain in my collection.

Along the way I have been able to pick up a few pieces of memorabilia online. I have a Mountie stamp and the complete Australia set proudly presented on my shelf. Try as I might the Blue Nose always slipped out of my reach.

One of the best gifts the Internet has given me was finally being able to get an audio copy of I'm a Runnin'. In the space of seven years it has had MANY plays on my computers, and will remain one of my favourite songs to listen to when the weather is hot or if we're driving in the car. I have spoken to Mike several times over the years on Youtube, as it was through his channel I was able to get the song from. I believe I asked him if you had a copy of Tommy Come Back by Martha, but I don't believe he did.

Mike recently uploaded a video highlighting some of the memorabilia he has retained from his time making the movie. This prompted me to email him regarding the envelopes used in the movie and after some back and forth emails learning about the film I have more memories to look back on at 25.

Thank you for reading. :)
