Well, I graduated from Kennedy Christian and grew up in Hermitage, and now my parents live in Sharpsville, and I'm another of us who was kind of excited to see the movie.

Then, I saw it.

Um, yeah....about that.....

When the movie was being filmed, I was downtown at the library, and my friend came over to me and said, "You HAVE to see what's going on the other side of the library!!!" So, I walked to the end of the parkinglot (which is the roof for another place), and low and behold, Patrick Swayze is in this black car, peeling out driving away, and doing this scene over and over again. We sat on the edge of the parkinglot ledge watching him less than 30 feet below us. It was kind of neat.

Lots of people went to be extras, and I did see many of my friends when I rented it a few years ago.

The scenery and shots taken in our home area was very neat to see on the big screen. It was especially funny how they would show the exterior to one place and the interior of another. Inside the Buhl Casino was actually a funeral home on State Street, I think. And when there was a basketball game at Sharon High, the gym showed was actually Farrell's gym. I saw all the places I'd driven through while growing up, and the main thought in my head was, 'Why couldn't this have been the movie Fargo or something worth watching? My home town and its surrounding areas are immortallized in this dumb movie'. I didn't think it was that good.

But, the real interesting part was that I went downtown to the Quaker, Steak and Lube and the Seafood Express and Tully's, the bars known as "3 by the river", or the restaurant mentioned as having a train in front of it (it does, and is one of the wing capitols of the east coast), later that week and saw Swayze himself there, partying with his crew. That was a treat. I didn't bother to talk to him because the crowd was so large around him, but I did watch the whole ordeal and talk to the waitresses that worked there on a regular basis. He apparently "enjoyed" himself a bit "much" with the females in his locale. Two girls I knew told me he hit on quite a few women and was a handful to wait on. This stayed in my mind when I saw him on Saturday Night Live a few years later when he talked about his wife and him and her danced. If only she knew. Or maybe she did. He seems like a truly fun guy, and people in the business seem to like him, but I would have been heartbroken to know my husband was trying to get lucky with other girls while on the set. Oh Patrick you little minx.
