Question about Black and White

Is it shot in high contrast, sort of inky black and white like in PI, or is there lots of gray? (I ask because I'm just not fond of the color gray)

It's pretty grey man. I would watch out if you dont like the colour grey. Cause there is alot of it in this movie. If you like PI, you'll probably like this one. It's alot more bizzare. ALOT!

Yeah you'll like it if you like Pi. It is quite obvious after watching the film that Aronofsky must have been under a huge influence from Tetsuo. Hell, many scenes in Pi are basicaly one-to-one copies of certain scenes from Tetsuo (only not as intense). To sum it up I'd say Tsukamoto wins in the visual and emotional department (cinematography and editing), it's just that more intense and radical than Pi but becomes quite crappy and monotonous towards the end, while Aronofsky is an excellent screenplay writer thus making Pi superior concerning storytelling (making it probably more rewarding in the end) - easier to digest for western audience at least. The acting in Pi is much more subtle as well (impecable in fact). However Tetsuo is a must for every cinemaphile.
