Now you're just being silly.

Nah, it's true. It's the only surrealist film I like.

Except for The Straight Story and Blue Velvet, you're right.

Honestly, I only truely enjoyed three David Lynch movies. (I still haven't seen the Sraight Story and Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me though). Though I wouldn't say that Tetsuo was better then all of his movies, but it was better directed then anything David Lynch has came up with. Lots of people compared Guy Maddin to David Lynch, but he's more like eye candy then anything else, and the same thing can be said about Shinya Tsukamoto.

I agree this film is better than Lynch's entire filmography. Blue Velvet was pretty damn great and may provide competition in my book.

reply

Sorry, but no. As much as I like the film, Lynch has made some absolute masterpeices in his day, The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, The Straight Story.

Yes...I do agree with the above poster. I liked Eraserhead for its ultra creepy nightmarish quality, but unlike Eraserhead, I kind of understood Tetsuo, and thats why I like it more.

reply

Bizarre. Only by comparions with Eraserhead will Tetsuo be described as 'understood'.

It's all to do with taste in regards to plot, though for me this is probably the best movie shot/directed ever, and I adore the themes of this movie so I'd be inclined to agree.

Now that I think about it, there is something wrong with that post.

It should read "Yeah you read it."

That's not hard.

Only thing he's done that I liked was Dune, and only because I'm such a huge fan of the books. Sure, Lynch's Dune mangled the storyline beyond hope of forgiveness, but the casting, effects, sets, costumes, and general ambiance were all spot-on.

Lost Highway was really, really bad.

Whether or not you like Lynch's films, you have to acknowledge how intelligently layered his films are with symbolism and mysterious imagery. His films are extremely well-crafted, and as much as I love "Tetsuo," it doesn't hold a candle to Lynch's genius. This is a good film but it's hardly a masterpiece of modern cinema. I wouldn't necessarily say that any of Lynch's films are masterpieces of modern cinema either, but there's no question in my mind that I prefer Lynch.

This film is better than "The Straight Story" and maybe "Inland Empire," but that's it. In my opinion.
