Dallas people aren't this redneck and close-minded

i like the movie but i've been to dallas many times and the people are not near this pathetic...maybe stone intentionally wanted to blow it a bit out of proportion for effect though...i'm sure there would be a bunch of biget hillbillies calling to harass an outspoken jewish dj but nothing like the movie portrays

i lived in the DFW area and people are a lot more open minded and accepting than they were back in the 80's maybe that's why they're like that in the film.

The people in Cleburne however are just as white trash as they've always been.

The movie is actually based on a Denver area deejay who was gunned down in his driveway in 1984.

The point here is that though Dallas, Denver, or even Washington, D.C. have very few white supremists (sp?), they are an extremely vocal and unbelieveably deadly force. DFW is a great place, and half of my family lives there, so I know that though this sick people are very few, they are very capable.

Pretty good list, although I'd say Irving should definitely be on the trashy list, a lot trashier than Plano imo. I lived in Irving and Plano last year, some parts of Irving I'd say are pretty much the same as living in Oak Cliff/South Dallas.

Anyway, yes Dallas does have it's share of rednecks and it's definitely not very culturally advanced. I'd say the main cultural interest of this town is football, you won't find any shortage of pickup trucks, the rodeo isn't far, and red state politics and the pro-Bush bumper stickers that welcome them rule the land. London, NY or LA this certainly is not.

Plus you have to assume his show is attracting the worst of the worst. I don't know about you but I certainly don't spend my late nights calling in to trashy talk radio shows, much less even listening to talk radio in the first place.

Awesome film though, and I don't think Stone was trying to slight D/FW, he's done a lot of filming here.

Casting for movie in the Dallas area titled "Sluts" - theslutsmovie.com

Yes, it appeared that many of his callers were from the eastern suburbs such as "Chet from Mesquite", the cab driver, the twenty three year old who "does nothing", etc

Barry's show attracted idiots, bigots, and the ignorant, which is something pretty much any major metro area has.
