What about the final sound track?

Does anyone know the name (or author) of the closing titles song?

It seems to be a russian song (I'm not sure) played from and old scratched disk.

Its just some random old icelandic song.

All wrong: its the Finnish version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky".

What is the sound an imploding pimp makes?

reply

For some strange reason I thought it sounded a bit like Jussi Björling.

Mario Nascimbene's score to 'The Vikings': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_fldhVW8Yg. A very nice melody.

Oh whisky, leave me alone.

I don't know the name or author of the closing titles song, but it's easy enough to check off what it is not:
--it's not Russian
--it's not Finnish, and has nothing to do with "Ghost Riders in the Sky"
--it's not Jussi Björling singing
--it has nothing to do with the score to "The Vikings"

It's also pretty easy to hear that it's a Germanic language, but not German. Since the movie is concerned with the Icelandic community of Gimli in Manitoba, Icelandic seems a fairly safe guess. It doesn't much sound like a folk song, but that's not impossible; to me it sounds more like a vaudeville music hall song from around the 1920s.

The end credits song is the only thing that caught my attention in this strange film. And there is indeed some similarity between this song and melody from The Vikings soundtrack, as somebody above suggested. Take a listen to this:

I have no idea if the composer of The Vikings perhaps borrowed from some old Nordic song. Because the song sounds indeed like some traditional "pop song" from North European region. Or is this an accidental similarity?
