Somebody has to like this movie...

Because "taffin" is frequently taken as a username on websites. I use it as my alias because it's close to my real first name. My friend started calling me Taffin as a joke when we saw the cheesy DVD cover on a shelf at Best Buy. I finally bought the movie and actually enjoyed it. I lend it to anyone wo wants to know why I go by Taffin online. They get a laugh out of it even if they think it sucks.

hey there, I like this move and have done since 1989 when I first saw it...such a laugh to look back on now...I now have it on DVD. I know it can come across as a little silly, or low budget, but what the heck. To me its getting better with age. Also, living in Ireland, it looks like an audition for one of our top soaps. Many characters in this film now appear in Fair City, or at least have appeared in Fair City. Barry, the ex-principle in Fair City, has hair in this film. Also, Brosnan's clothes are cool here and could be easily worn in a movie made today and still be stylish!

Try to look out for the parts, where it seems Brosnan's voice has been dubbed by someone else...and just one scene of bad acting...'well maybe you should go then'.

I like this movie. It probably helped Brosnan get cast as Bond, too. Showed he could play a hard man.

Or a pint of Guinness. ;)

Without doubt one of the owrst movies I have ever seen, painful to say the least.

Just saw it now on telly. Thought it was watchable. Love to see the old school stuff, 88 but it looked more like 78!

She is beautiful though, and only 22 at the time. Gorgeous. Some nice striptease action in the pub too!

Just saw it too. Not as bad as a 5.3 but it was rammed full of cliches. And what with all the rich guys with laughably posh English accents? Lots of English businessman in Wicklow in 1980s, were there? Hmmm...

It was on BBC1 last night and it was hilarious. I always knew that Brosnan's big gut in Die Another Day was due to drinking too much Guinness and this film confirms it. Appearances from Dermot Morgan and Frank 'Feck Off!' Kelly add to the fun.

Do you know where abouts in the film Dermot Morgan and Frank Kelly are? Its on youtube in parts and I'd like to see them.

Thanks.

I remember Morgan playing a stand-up comic in the film, but can't remember exactly where you'll see him. I think Frank Kelly pops up at various points throughout the film, but that might just be my memory playing tricks.

Taffin is hilarious viewing so I'd watch all of it if I were you. It even has a music score by Hans Zimmer!

IT SUPPOSED 2 B GOOD

WHY SO SERIOUS?!

reply

Well i just got done seeing this film this morning and it's SO-SO and i consider myself a Brosnan fan to.

i give it a 5-6/10 (i went with a 5/10 though). it turned out a at least a little worse than i expected to be honest as i thought it was probably going to be no less than a 6/10 but no more than a 7/10. but i have to say it's current 5.5/10 average rating is just about right for it.

It's fun. Can't get all serious about films like this. So many tough guy movies used to be in this vein. Must see it again.

This film is so oirish it has to be seen to be believed! Every conceivable Irish cliche is thrown in with dastardly English as villains with cut glass oh so posh accents and even the end credits are played out to a jig. To cap it all theres a poster of Chris de Burgh on the wall of the protagonist and titular lead!
