The Vanishing original is the best of the two the remake is okay but this one is much much better it has a much better ending the ending is the best part of the film it is haunting provocative and delievers a chilling message: you must let go of the past to have a future. The remake changes this and just turns it into a slasher film and takes away the message of the ending (also removing the golden egg dream references which are essential to the whole film) the remake delievers its share, but when you could just as easily watch this awesome film why bother?

I agree with both of you.

If you recall "The Parallax View" (1974), Warren Beatty's character is killed at the end, and the bad guys win. I think American audiences would have liked the American version of "The Vanishing" with the original ending.
