When they started to tear Johnny apart

Ok, I did cry as a child and I am still disturbed by it when I watch it. But when they were hitting him I always felt the guy with the Axe didnt want to destroy him because he knew Johnny 5 was a one of a kind robot and appreciated him. Because he was like the brains of the theft and the other guy was the muscle.

Yeah same here. I think its because the whole movie up until that point, everything Johnny 5 does is funny and innocent, So its Pretty messed up seeing him get smashed to peices like that when you're a child.

Have you seen the alternative fan made version of the scene?:

I agree also - Saunders wasn't particularly vicious, just completely spineless, doing what the other two ordered him to do. It's interesting to note that, in the fight scene near the end of the picture, when Saunders surrenders to Johnny after seeing him put Jones out of commission, Johnny has plenty of opportunity to get even with Saunders for having severed his arm and sent him into shock; instead, Johnny seems to know that Saunders was the reluctant party all along, and merely wraps him up in a wire fence. They even speak politely to each other as Johnny traps him inside the fence! What a great robot!! YES Five!!

"Terrifying" is the word for it - I skip over that scene on the DVD, I can't bring myself to watch it at all!!

That scene gives me chills every time...

LOL I know what you mean. When I was a little kid I would fast forward past that part.

Funny thing is im a 25 year old man now and I found this on Netflix the other day and I still skip past that part.

I used to always feel so bad for J5 when they did that to him.

I remember crying everytime I saw this scene. I still have a very hard time watching it when it's on TV.

That is one of the worst scenes I have ever seen in a movie.

My 5-year old son caught a piece of this when flipping through the channels and of course had me stop so he could watch. I thought "harmless enough" and actually had a bit of nostalgia watching with him (I'm in my 30s).....until they got to the part where they proceed to smash up J5. I covered my son's eyes and wouldn't allow him to watch! Haha.

I found that scene surprisingly moving because by then Johnny was a real character – especially because this sequel was moving star power otherwise.

Those thieves are not better than Skroeder. Skroder would had done the same thing if he found out Johnny 5 wasn't destroyed.

Today J5 would probably have a LIPO battery, and as any hobbyist knows, you so much as nick one of those cells---WHOOOOFFF!

I didnt really like the series but it was an "ok" movie to watch at the time. But I also vividly remembered this scene. Even though it was a machine, it sounded very genuine as he was lying there enduring the hits with the pipe yelling "No wait!...do not kill me...ow!". I hate seeing anything defenseless and being made to suffer and that scene brought it out in a pretty compelling fashion.

I also felt that one guy was there for the money, but didnt sign up to hurt anyone. You could see it in his face that he wasnt a willing participant.

That scene gets me each time. Johnny is a good robot and a great person he didn't ask to get beat up and didn't deserve that.

Skroeder enjoyed his job, no doubt, but he was really only doing what any person in his situation would have done. A machine with a fully functional weapon was running loose in the public and unpredictable and Skroeder's job was to protect the public, even if that meant blowing up Number 5.

Oscar and the bank robbers that used Johnny 5 to steal property and were attempting to cover their own asses by destroying the only witness.

There is a huge difference. And in my mind, at least Skroeder is the only one who is justified.

The first time i saw this scene was during a showing in my third grade class!
I didn't cry, but it was very sad and sort of disturbing. To make matters worse, it was the end of the day, so when the bell rang they stopped the movie right after that scene, leaving us wondering what would happen to Johnny 5!!

I wonder what it would be like with skroder teamed up with the thieves.

Karma for being a bank robbing gang member. He got what he deserved.

reply

I wonder what the reason was why he got smashed up.

The guy with the cowbar really wanted to destroy him.
