Did the diamond salesmans wife die after the opening scene?

The movie didn't seem very clear about this. I know she had some blood on her face and she moved her head, but I couldn't tell if that was intentional movement or the weight of her head falling down after Poitier let go of her face. Sometimes its hard to tell with these old movies.
