One thing I like about this movie...

One thing I like about this movie is that even though I see it as mostly a Christian movie and it portrays Jesus as the Son of God I thought the film was quite respectful to Jews, Judaism and the traditions and beliefs of Jews. In fact it looks to me like we have a combination of Christian and Jewish ideas about theology and eschatology in the film.

I like how Jesus takes refuge in a synagogue rather than a church and seems to accept Avi, the young Jewish man, at the very end of the movie as a Jew and doesn't try to convert him.

I think this is a really good, interesting and thought-provoking religious thriller that doesn't get to preachy and is respectful to Jews.

I agree 100%, OP.
I liked how Judaism & Christianity blended together beautifully. People forget that Jesus WAS a Jew and also the Son Of God.
So the film took both aspects & joined them together respectfully.
The film was intelligent & ahead of its time in many aspects.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?

Why *wouldn't* Jesus take refuge in a synagogue and accept Avi as a Jew? He was *born* a Jew. He never converted to Christianity; He started the movement so that others would. And Jesus loves everyone. Sheesh!

None of you are understanding what happened in the film. David/Jesus did not 'take refuge' in a synagogue. He lured Abby there as prayers for the dead (kaddish) were being said for a deceased person. Then, he breaks the 4th seal, which in the book of Revelation is "Death." He used the setting of this prayer service for the dead to unleash Death upon the world. That's hardly 'taking refuge.'

You can argue 'well he still used a synagogue and not a church to do this,' and that could be a fair point. But you can also say...if he chose the setting of a synagogue to unleash Death upon the world, can that be interpreted as an ominous sign for the Jews? You can go either way on that one.
