what this one was really about

I guess noone noticed, but what this movie (haven't read the book) was really about, was Haiti itself. And it was a true story. I don't really pretend to know much about Haiti, but the fact is it harboured a lot of poverty, superstitions and old beliefs. And so it was a perfect place for someone to take dominion over it. The black magicians did not need to manifest their powers through magick. Afterall they could physically torture you to death. For those it is a peaceful death. But if they keep you alive and force you to live under them, you are their slave forever, wherever you go.
I recently saw the True horror series by Anthony Head, the one about he zombies and Haiti makes this movie real as it was made today.
