Zakes was locked up and tortured himself for a long period during his teen years, and (sadly) had his father killed in front of him by government soldiers. What Zake went through is one of the reasons Wes immediately gave him the part once he offered himself, because he knew exactly how these type of people behaved, since he too had survived them.
