Scrotum *spoilers*

I was surprised that no one had made a topic about this. As a guy, watching this movie, the scene where Pullman gets a nail driven through his scrotum was one of the most cringe-worthy moments in film. What's worst is that Pullmans character barely mentions it afterwords; in an almost 'shake it off' nature.

I really liked this film. But Pullmans character just recovered too quick for my liking. Anyone else feel that way? Anyone else cross their legs during that part?

It's hard to say if he recovered too quickly, since we don't know how long he was bedridden after the experience. Plus, it's only skin.

reply

Yeah, maybe that's part of the problem. It wasn't well relayed as to how much time had passed.

reply

I just saw the movie. They said he was bedridden for three days which seems a small amount of time to get over that.

reply

Three days is plenty of recovery time as long as it only penetrated the scrotal sac. The typical recovery time for a vasectomy is 1 day of icing and two days of discomfort.

reply

I crossed my legs the rest of the movie....

Just watched the movie and I didn't even realize the nail went in his scrotum at first. It was offscreen and it wasn't clear where he was stabbed

There is enough fear involved in knowing one just had a nail through the ball sack. It would be a TREMENDOUS relief to know it is only a flesh wound, and the ballery is still intact.

Maybe that's why he shook it off so well. He thought it was bye bye ball-os and ended up being just a flesh wound.

Confound your lousy toll.. TROLL!

I don't think he shook it off at all. They just didn't show us all the recovery. When he was dumped off in the street, that was some of the best acting he's ever done. I felt so bad for him, just shaking there, completely broken.

My husband just saw this for the first time since he was a kid. This was the only scene he clearly remembered from back then. Obviously, it is even more chilling for men to see. Ouch.

Assuming it didn't go through an actual bollock, it wouldn't take long to recover from at all - just uncomfortable to walk with, I'd imagine. In some ways I'd imagine it's one of the least painful places to have a nail driven through due to the lack of flesh, though I wouldn't recommend it.

These bastards!

He said himself it was meant to be a scare tactic: lots of pain and fear but minimum damage.

They weren't trying to cripple him.

I felt bad for Dennis when that happened.

I would definitely like to thank everyone for their input on this one point in the movie. I was on the fence about watching it, but after hearing that this happens, I think I'll pass. lol

It's odd, I haven't seen this film in about 20 years but saw it tonight and could have sworn I saw the nail graphically driven through his scrotum skin when I last saw it... But in the film I saw tonight the violence in this scene was completely offscreen AND the character narrated afterwards that the wound inflicted was fear and not physical - yet he seemed to have bleeding from the groin..

I guess the scene was effective enough that I thought I had seen much more, as I can't find any details of cut scenes.

Great film BTW.
