VHS Home Video Recorder

Sorry, I know it's an easy joke, but I can't help but laugh whenever they mention it, given that it's now obsolete technology.

reply

It's not really a joke; it was state-of-the-art when the movie was made. And they were expensive then, too. I don't laugh at this any more than I'd laugh at a 1940s movie picturing people listening to the radio.

Earth without art is just "eh."

reply

No, I know the movie wasn't making a joke out of it. I was referring to the fact that anytime someone like myself points out that a product from an old movie is obsolete, that person is making an easy joke, that's all.

I still have two of them, alot of my VHS movies I can't get on DVD, nor do I wish to have them converted. I still get to watch the old movies I enjoy- while others I know who got rid of theirs can't watch the older movies, and actually complain that they want a VCR again. Every household should still have one.

reply

You may want to consider getting them converted as the actual tape in VHS tapes does have a shelf life (like 30 years?) before it starts to deteriorate. You may end up losing your favorite old movies.

They were expensive. When we first bought ours, it was an old JVC VHS worth about $800 back then in the 80s.

It had these manual buttons on the unit as well, and even had a image enhancer feature that when the video was shaky you can adjust it.

Well technology gets obsolete.

Just check out the CRT televisions.

It's that man again!!

reply

Not a big deal. Most people have an idea what year or close to it that the film they are watching is from.
So they would get it. To nitpick something like that doesn't really fit.

You only have to go back a few years to see movies featuring sidekicks and blackberries. What about Bluetooth headsets or MP3 players? It's all relative.
