he sure likes this drink.

Yeah, he puts Tab in his cocktails, of course, near the end, he is drinking more liquor than Tab. Notice that in the scene after the special starts and John Houseman is narrating? His hands are shaking as he's pouring the drink and barely getting any Tab out of the can. Maybe Coke and Pepsi wouldn't allow them to use their product, so they went with Tab.

But isn't Tab made by the coca cola company? What would be the difference between using Tab and regular coke?

Besides, people mix alcohol with all different kinds of soft drinks, not just the most famous stuff.

reply

yes. it is.

Tab is just diet coke, so you can put it in loads of cocktails.

TaB is all I drink. And btw it is made by Coca Cola- popular in the 70s and 80s and my fridge to this day is always stocked with it.

reply

i'll have to pick some up. don't know if i've seen it lately, tho.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched Scrooged Last Night after watching Kingpin two days before... Definitely thought it must have been a reference to Scrooged that Murray threw in for the heck of it

good to hear!

Even in the 80's TAB was kind of a joke. It was trendy and a punch line, so having tis character mix a drink with TAB makes perfect sense. By the the time Kingpin rolled around, forget it. TAB was full on punch line.

As a daily taB drinker I need to inform:

Wiki: "DIET Coke was first introduced in the United States on August 9, 1982 as the first new brand since 1886 to use the Coca-Cola trademark. The product quickly overtook the company's existing diet cola, Tab, in sales."

Me: Diet Coke was made with aspartame (still is) and Tab was made with saccharine. (now is a blend of sac/aspartame-the only diet product on market to this day made with no aspartame is Diet Rite)

I would not be able to function without taB and the day they added aspartame to it, it almost crushed me. lol But thankfully still sweetened with more saccharine than aspartame.

And in college in the 80s, my drink of choice was vodka and taB.
