My review

This is not a good enough movie to watch more than once, but it was actually pretty cute. There were several really cute and funny little scenes. Also, I never thought much of Liam Neeson before, but he looks just plain hot in this movie. And the guy who plays Nikki (Scott Coffey .... Nickie Longo), while not necessarily good looking is quite adorable. As long as you're not looking for a deep and meaningful movie with brilliant acting, it is cute.

it's not even a good enuff movie to watch even once--I saw it because it was filmed where I live (Isle of Palms, SC)

so, you're a filmmaker--you have the dazzling Julia Roberts--you have the extremely cute Trini Alvarado, you have the exquisitely fine Britta Phillips, and you choose to make as the star (drum roll)

the ineffably, stunningly, mind-numbingly ugly Justine Bateman (!!???)

way to go

Justine's "Family Ties" fame is the only possible reason she has the lead in this, and an above-the-title credit, no less. Her acting is passable, but her singing, horrendous. Lovely Britta Phillips has much more screen presence than Justine, even with that horrible dialogue. (So, Britta was the voice of Jem? What a fun piece of trivia!) And Julia? In this, she's pretty much just big hair and a big smile. To me, it was "Mystic Pizza" that first gave hints that she was something special. Now THAT'S a fun 80s chick flick, and a lot better one than this.

Hello, Justine is FANTASTIC!!!

Yeah, I agree, Justine is cool.. She was definitely quite the hot item at the time and, like most tv stars, was given the chance to star in a movie.. I think she did well.. Objectively speaking this movie is nothing special, but I really like it for sentimental reasons.. Also, I think the songs/soundtrack are under-rated.. Some of the renditions are amazingly catchy...

So that's where it was filmed. I knew it was somewhere in SC, because of the decals on the boats. I also figured it was somewhere near Charleston, judging by the scenery. I live in Greenville, and have visited Charleston several times, but have never been to Isle of Palms.

Yeah, Justine was definately the coolest chick on TV back then. The bickering between her & M J Fox was the best part of the show. The only other TV girl that came close was Lisa Bonet. A Rocker & a Hippie, I could'nt relate to much else on TV at the time.

But you have to keep in mind that Justine was THE STAR back then.
This movie was made when she was on top of the world as Michael J. Fox's ditzy sister on Family Ties.

Julia was a total nobody, Trini still is a nobody and Britta is only a sombody if your into her music. Heck even Liam Neeson was pretty much a nobody.

Actually Scott Coffey was probably the second most famous at this time because he had just finished Ferris Bueller, Space Camp and Some Kind Of Wonderful which were all pretty popular teen movies back in "tha day".
