Does anyone know if this will be re-released on DVD?

I don't want to pay 100 dollars for a copy and the VHS version I have is in terrible condition.

reply

I've seen it available for rent on DVD. Has that gone out of print? The DVD itself is pretty scarce in rental houses, also single-layer burn resolution.

reply

its being sold for around 300 bucks used by
several people on amazon.. freaking insane..

i just wish movie studios would actually track
buying trends. there are a lot of great DVDs
that need to be re-released..

I bought the DVD several years ago from the Musical Heritage Society (www.musicalheritage.com), a club which mostly has classical and jazz CDs and DVDs, but also a few non-musical DVDs. They still have Salome's Last Dance listed for $29.98. You do have to join the Society to buy from them, but, unlike some clubs, there's no purchase obligation, though I guess you do have to get the initial package of 7 CDs for 99¢ each (plus shipping and handling, which is from $2.59-2.79 per disc). Assuming you can find enough initial-package purchases that interest you, it'd certainly beat $300.00.

I just checked w/ the Musical Heritage Society and the DVD is no longer available.

TRy you city library. I saw it on DVD borrowed from the Chicago Public Library.

I heard a rumor that The Criterion Collection hinted in their blog that they planned to re release "Salome's Last Dance" on DVD. Is there any truth to this?

reply

And that's all that it is...a rumor. There's nothing on their site that states that at all, they've never had a Russell film on their roster, not ever. It's unlikely that they ever will. Lion's Gate probably owns Salome's Last Dance, write them.

BOUGHT BRAND NEW ITALIAN DVD COPY FROM XPLOITEDCINEMA.COM.FILM IS IN ENGLISH
NO EXTRAS-USD24.00

reply

Yeah, I own that DVD myself. Sadly it's a 4:3 cropped. But right now there's no other way to get hold of the film. I treasure my LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM disc with Russell's witful commentary on it.

reply

The DVD is not really a "cropped-4:3" but an "open matte-4:3"-presentation - so it has more "useless" picture information on top and below - if you watch it on a computer via VLC for example you can change the display-presentation and it is as intended...

reply

Amazon sells the DVD version of "L'Ultima Salome" which is the Italian release for Region 2. It's the 4:3 cropped (VHS transfer, basically) in English, with the option to turn off subtitles. Alternately, it has Italian 5.1 and Italian 2.0 soundtracks, as well. The quality is about as good as a brand new VHS copy, but it's the ONLY way to get it on DVD right now.

As for Region encoding... well, there are ways around that. Google it. BY they way, it's a 4.19GB DVD in case you wondered.

I'd love to see a HD cut of this in widescreen.

It is now on Hulu. So, if you want to see it (again and again until it expires) go to www.hulu.com.

reply

when is the expire date?

She's harder to get into than a Pearl Jam concert!
