Why isn't this in the Top 250?

With an average vote of 7.8, shouldn't this be in the Top 250?

There aren't enough voters.

It's sad to see movies so well created and close to depicting reality rarely make it to the top from that side of the world. The terrible thing to observe is that the movie came out in 1988 and even after 17 years the plight on streets is still the same.

Saw this for the first time last nite - wow. Too bad it missed out on the Oscar in '89.
The only gripe I had was that some of the soundtrack music did not fit the scenes - sounded almost like the people who recorded the music had no idea it was going to be used in the movie...

I too am surprised that it hasn't made it to top 20. I think it has enough vote to make it.

IMDB needs at least 1300 votes to qualify for top 250. And those votes have to come from regular voters who vote all the time.
Graet movie though, makes you think.

Because we need some extra room for "masterpieces" like "Superbad", "Hott Fuzz", "Shaun of the Dead", etc.
