End theories??

I think that all Krishna went through at the end, he was able to work again and finally was able to make the 500 rupees and go home. What do you guys think??

It's all about the corned beef sandwiches and pineapple juice

I don't think that this is the impression you're supposed to leave with, or at least this is the impression I left with. Krishna has suffered the archetypal "loss of innocence," and his dream of returning home was part of that innocence.

I feel that he realized that he has to fight in this world to survive ... darklight is also right with his loss of innocence theory

he may or may not go back ... that is not the point of this film

by the way ... did someone notice the Taxi Driver-ish end/theme ?

I think he gives up and finally realizes that he will always be on the street and he can't get out.

reply

that's a very naive and childish theory. the truth is, he has made the transition to a life on the streets that includes crime. every last person that he might have had a chance of returning to his village with has disappeared from his life, chillum, manju, sweet sixteen, rekha the prostitute. he makes his final descent into the perpetual cycle that is street life

well he knows that he's stuck in Bombay ..but even though he wants to leave, he can't so the movie's title Salaam Bombay (goodbye bombay) is basically that all the kids/characters want to leave but they can't. They're stuck in an endless cycle, even the adults that are shown are stuck in this cycle.

BTW Bombay in no longer like this anymore, a lot has changed for the better.

I also think that Krishna probably stayed in Bombay and never went back to his home village. And even if he did - remember that he was sent away by his own mother. I don't think his family wanted him back.
