Unbelievable Plot - Spoilers

This should have been called something other than ROOTS! It would have been better if Kunta Kinte wasn't in it.

- Sorry but, Kunta would have been whipped or killed for talking back to the Misses, when he refuses to be a camel. He embarassed his Massa!

- Talk of Kunta Kinte or Africa would not have been tolerated by whites. (That's why American blacks don't know their history..even Fanta knew she had to forget her heritage in order to survive)

- The little girl would not have had so much compassion for Kunta Kinte.

- At the end Fiddler would not have told the white man not to call him swine.

- The Fiddler of ROOTS would not have gone along with the escape plan. He was too scared.

- Kunta Kinte would never have given up a chance to escape. He would have swam that river!

Well, the story comes from Haley's research, but the characters were different people, they kept the ROOTS name to keep it connected to the franchise, and used the characters (and consequently the actors) to sell it to the fans. I think the title is fine, and the story is good, they just should have gone with new characters.

Of course, my opinion might not be worth all that much here since I only watched it for Shaun Cassidy in the first place...

I DIED IN EPISODE 81!!!

Not if no one told him. If you watch the film during that scene, you'll see Reynolds left the room just before Kunta stood up and refused to be a camel.

"- Talk of Kunta Kinte or Africa would not have been tolerated by whites. (That's why American blacks don't know their history..even Fanta knew she had to forget her heritage in order to survive)"

Kunta didn't talk about Africa in front of white people in the movie.

"- The little girl would not have had so much compassion for Kunta Kinte."

How do you know that? Some Americans felt bad for slaves in the United States of America. That is why abolitionists groups were formed. There were and are a lot of people living in this country. Do you honestly believe all humans are exactly the same, and think the exactly the same? If that was the case, slavery would not have been such an issue to some folks back then.

"- At the end Fiddler would not have told the white man not to call him swine."

Fiddler whispered it, and he said it in a joking way. Also, he knew the young man was a friend to black people, and presumed he would not be offended.

"- The Fiddler of ROOTS would not have gone along with the escape plan. He was too scared."

Fiddler in "Roots: The Gift" was scared too, and it took much convincing to get him to go along.

"- Kunta Kinte would never have given up a chance to escape. He would have swam that river"

Kunta Kinte was a very proud man, and when he makes a promise to someone, he keeps it. If you watch the motion picture, you see that he starts crying after the boat leaves, but soon stops because he hears the dogs coming for them, and he and Fiddler get out of that area.

It's not a good point. Kunta was man with pride. He kept his promises.
