Not Very Good
This is a slow moving, dull as dishwater movie. I wouldn't recomend it.
Also for Culkin fans, he barely talks, and when he does it's in whispers.
Turn a frown upside down...and keep frowning.

I really couldn't disagree more. I found it to be a touching, thought-provoking film, from start to finish. Very rarely can an American film come close to Ozu's ability to show the gaps between generations as well as this film does.
Lancaster provided a stunning effort in the role, and it makes me sad that so many people come to the film expecting it to be a Kevin Spacey vehicle, only to find that he has a bit part in it. Expect a thoughtful, endearing, patient story and you will be rewarded.
I was working at a Blockbuster years ago and a couple came in who just wanted something to watch..no biggie, but they came in as we were closing. I asked them to hurry up and graba movie. They came to the register with...Rocket Gibralter. They didn;t seem to care either way (young amorous couple) and it was pt closing but I would not let them rent this horrible piece of garbage..we looked around and got something else...so so so so bad..
shareYa right, if this is your idea of garbage, I would hate to see your list of "great movies".

I'm with "onlysleeping" and "skatepunkkid" on this one. Sadly, this film couldn't even get made in today's Hollywood. Moviegoers apparently want cheap thrills, meaningless sex, remakes, sequels and vulgar language. There is little patience for sentiment, romance, good stories well told, stories about families and real relationships, etc. Rocket Gibraltar was a good, solid film. Burt Lancaster made one more film after this; "Field of Dreams." I doubt that one would be filmed today as well. I'm thankful for video that keeps the good stuff available.
