I thought they would do somethin with that and make things more interesting, u know, add to the storyline to make it much better, but they didn't... oh well

Jim does mention to Mrs.Darcy (do I have the name correct?) that he is staying one more day to take care of Spur's finances, or something of that sort. We just have to assume he did finish it sometime in the future, including his own share of it.

It's a movie, not a biography. They don't have to show everything.

If I had my choice, Spur would be living and be a part of the sequel too, but unfortunately Kirk Douglas was not available, and Brian Dennehy was too big physically to play Spur. I believe Spur's death and whatever resulted from it was put in at the last minute when it became clear that KD would not be available.

There was virtually nothing to inherit. The priest told Jim that they found the "mother load" fifty feet from the shaft. That occurred after Spur had passed away while Jim was gone. Also, it's not very likely that Spur had any kind of a written will bequeathing anything that he had found before then and assuming that Spur had filed any kind of a claim on the mine itself.
