Lack of realism

Quite an enjoyable flick and entertaining too, but I couldn't help but thinking that some scenes came off as somewhat unrealistic.

Take for instance the scene where former soldier Wilbur Finletter calls his ex-comrade in Arms Sam Smith. Sam Smith answers on a RED telephone. Given the fact that he was in the first war with the tomatoes and probably suffered from PTSD from that one as well, one would assume that a red telephone was out of the question due to the association with the tomatoes' standard color.

Any thoughts?

It's just a B-movie comedy. Just enjoy for its intended purpose. It's not really worth looking for inconsistencies, continuity, or plot holes.

I was miffed by Finletters ability to produce a sword in his pizzaria.

Was this storage of a deadly weapon authorized by the authoritative authorities? Especially in a public house traditionally serving those-that-must-not-be-named based food products.

Also, we saw young Finletter signal his turn to the right of the pizza shop but did he keep the correct speed limit used when driving through a populated area?

Yep, that's definitely the most unrealistic thing about this movie.
