when charles kills that preist and two cops they make no metion of it in the courtroom scenes- stating that he's killed 5 people(the two familes) when in fact it's 8(two familes+the two cops and priest). Was this a dream or a really bad mistake?

i dont know, i have this on vhs somewhere and my mom was watchign it earlier today, but i think maybe the priest was a dream or hallucination.

There is a scene right after he is captured in the church where Biehn and the defense are discussing the escape and killings with the judge in his chambers. The judge rules those events have no bearing on the case. I'm not a lawyer and can't remember exactly how he came to this conclusion, something about it being natural he wanted to escape.
shareI had to watch the segment twice to piece it together. At first I thought it was a fantasy, or perhaps a flash-forward to after he was imprisoned, but you're right: The judge orders it shielded from the jury because it has no bearing on his trial. This seems implausible to me, but of course he wasn't on trial for killing the priest (yet). Can anyone with better knowledge of the legal system comment?
