The location ruined the movie.

I loved that Rambo had to go save Trautman. It was the next natural step in plot evolution. However, Afghanistan is a boring setting to watch.

I loved the setting in this movie. One of my favorite shots in the whole film is when Rambo and his companion stop and look at the mountains "This is Afghanistan. Alexander the Great tried to conquer this country, then the British, now Russia."

But your right Lonestarr. If they did another movie shortly after this one where could it have been set? In a Cliffhanger type enviroment maybe?

Oh yeah I forgot he would have to have his shirt off. Snowy mountains wouldnt work. Yeah his best bet would be to go back to the jungles. He would have tried to go back to what worked with Rambo II after the disapointment of III's box office take.

I like the mythological aspect your bringing to the movie and the character. It does kind of play out like Rambo was part of some unknown prophecy (of the Aghans) that forsaw a "God" from the West would appear at the darkest hour and rescue the people from their evil invaders. But it would not be known by the people or the savior himself that it was written.

Rambo is just there to save his friend. But then the prophecy is fullfiled once these words are said.."Go on. This is not your war." "It is now." Stories are now told for generations of this strange looking white man from the west that with the help of a small band of freedom fighters conquered a faction of the Soviet Empire which lead to the end of the war.

Wow we are really taking this deeper than its meant to be lol. But hey, movies are there to be interpreted however one pleases right.

Just.. Not to rain on the parade.. I think if 4 would have happened back in the 90s the story with the most support behind it would have seen Rambo back stateside.. Probably Wyomimg. The story was going to be set around an American militia.. But would have seen the return of Dennehy reprising Teasel from the first film.. I was quite intrigued with the idea..

Since then the 2 closest ideas, aside from the crazy alien hunter idea was either D.C. or Mexico.. Both interesting new places..

I have never seen that in any treatments. Where did you hear of this?

The original script for Rambo III by David Morrell himself was set in Central America. I think the setting made this movie. Something new.

The Rambo IV that almost happened in the 90s according to the DVDs trivia game section was Rambo vs. environmental terrorists in the states.
