Not that bad!

The first time that I watched this movie was a year ago and I hated it! I thought that it was boring and that it didn't make any sense (I even made a thread about it), but I watched it not too long ago and I liked it A LOT more!

Like I said, when I first saw it I thought that it didn't make any sense, but that's only because I wasn't into it, now I understand pretty much everything and it's pretty simple! Lester's shadow was his good side and that's why it wanted to stop him. The clues on the crime scenes weren't mistakes, they were put there by his shadow. That's it. Basically, Lester was so *beep* up and evil that the only good thing about him was his shadow.

Ok, that's just my interpretation, but in my opinion, the point of a couple of Fulci's movies is to come up with your own interpretation.

Anyway, it's not a great movie, but it's not bad. It has some cool gore, it's pretty funny in parts and I liked the shadow thing. I give it 6/10.

I agree with your comments and I enjoyed the film, too. While it's not in the same league as, say, Fulci's earlier horror epics such as Zombie, The Beyond, and The New York Ripper, it's actually an altogether different kind of film and I think fans need to keep that in mind. Touch of Death is essentially a vicious black comedy and not a straight-up horror flick. I think, for the most part, Fulci was through with making straight-up horror films at that point in his career (late 1980s) and he opted for other, somewhat more challenging, projects instead. Also, the film has a much smaller budget than his earlier films and was made for TV not the cinema. So for what it is, it's damn good and I appreciate the homage to Poe. In fact, I detect a bit of The Tell-Tale Heart in the plot though maybe I'm mistaken.

Anyway, I rated the film a solid 7/10.

Fulci fans should enjoy it. People who don't understand or appreciate Fulci's films (and that's probably about 99% of the general population) might not "get it" though.

Have you seen the little piggies crawling in the dirt?
