Loved it

Oh this movie is so touching, Tom Hanks so young and sexy, Sally Field fantastic...and I found myself in tears with the singing in the rain scene...beautiful. But the movie ends somehow sad to me...

I've just seen this movie for the first time and I loved it! Tom's performance is brilliant!

Personally, I think the ending of this movie is just perfect. Steven won the contest, which meant more to him than anything, and Lila reconnected with her husband and realized that he family was more important than being a stand-up.

The ending is absurd; talk about trying to have it both ways! Yeah, let's tie it up in a neat little package and put a bow on it, so that everyone will be happy.

Lila didn't deserve to win and even if she did, no aspiring comedian would ever turn down a chance to go on Carson.

Would Steven really want to win the contest by default? I would think not.

And the most unbelievable part of this movie was Stephen falling in love with a 40-something mousey housewife from Jersey. There was absolutely no chemistry between the two. You could believe that a guy like that might help her a little, but to fall in love with her? Ridiculous!

But I still like the movie because of Tom Hanks. He is a great talent.

Not more important, equally important, she will still be a stand-up comedian. You sound sexist af.

Same here. And I knew not to expect a comedy. There were some very humorous scenes, but those had nothing to do with the characters being on stage telling jokes. It was very good. I loved the dinner preparation as well as Tom's singing in the rain bit.

I saw this movie when it was released in the theaters, and I was rather disappointed then. I didn't think the jokes were all that funny, and I thought it was needlessly downbeat. But I just watched it again, and I loved it. Sure, many of the jokes do not work, but that's the comedy business. Sally Field and John Goodman were great as the rather bored suburban couple, and Tom Hanks was terrific as the frustrated med student turned comic. And while I don't normally like films that reference other films, the "Singing in the Rain" bit was inspired. I'm glad I gave this another chance.

I loved this movie, Tom Hanks was so young and good looking (not that he isn't now but more so in the early days) - he's the greatest actor ever.

That scene rips my guts out every time I watch this film...so does the scene where he has the meltdown onstage after discovering that his father is in the audience and his cover of still being in medical school is blown.
