Regarding the 'Big Contest'

I was wondering how many people who saw this film really thought Lila deserved to win the Big Contest at the end of the film?

Lila was a terrible comedian. She would be booed off of every stage in America.

I would not say she deserved to win the Big Contest over Steve (although since we only saw her and Steven's acts in full, we have to assume they were the two best). What I really wonder is whether Romeo was lying to them when he said that Steven had lost and Lila had won. He struck me as a remarkably manipulative jerk. Such people lie freely to get others to act they way they want them to act. He wanted everyone up on the stage, so he was trying to force them by saying Steve hadn't won, but the real winner would forfeit if s/he did not get up on the stage. Lila basically called his bluff. She thought Steve was better, so that he deserved to win. When she tells her husband she won, she could have been referring to the note he wrote to her and that he accepted her and her love of comedy.
