Who could play Patty today in a movie?

I personally think that Winona Ryder or Mena Suvari (if she died her hair darker) would be suited well for the role.

What do you guys think?

Winona Ryder is too old; she's on the wrong side of 35 to play a 19 year old.

Natalie Portman is a better candidate -- she's more youthful looking and seems to equally resemble Hearst. She's probably on the old side as well -- IMDB lists her as nearly 26, but she's a lot closer than Ryder is now.

evan rachel wood.

she's not yet 20. and has a physical resemblance to patricia hearst. she's also shown that she can handle dramatic material with some depth to it ("pretty persuasion").

All good choices here.
Kate Bosworth came to mind for me.

Scout Taylor, the newbie who was in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake, though I doubt there's any reason or interest to do so after Schrader's film. Documentaries and books have filled-in the rest, and "Patty Hearst" (1988) is definitive. It's funny, my aunt knew Bill ("I wish I was Black!") and Emily Harris when they were at IU Bloomington for a time. They were nuts. No, I see no point in doing another one, it won't add much and only so much is know since several of the players are dead and because Ms. Hearst is very enigmatic about what happened to her. Winona Ryder would be a horrible choice, and she's now too old. No resemblance as there was with Richardson, she nailed it better than anyone ever will. Why bother? I just bought the laserdisc.
