Finally!

When I was a kid, I saw this movie on TV. I was a big fan of time travel-related movies (due to Back to the Future) and this was right up my alley. I loved it at the time, so much so that I remember being upset with my mother that we hadn't videotaped it. She promised it would be on again. Almost 20 years later, I found it. I couldn't have told you who was in it, what it was called, or even really what the plot was. I just remembered it had cool futuristic stuff in it and a guy went back in time and found his grandfather. But recently I saw it on TV (FX or Hallmark or one of those types of channels, I'm sure) and just about fell out of my chair. As I watched it, I was surprised to see Kristain Alfonso from Days of Our Lives and Bill Maher from...well, Bill Maher both starring in this. Naturally, the film does not hold up as well as my vague memories had built it up to be, but if it captured my imagination as a child so much so that I still remembered it today, there must be something special there. If you have a child who is into science fiction or just time travel, find this movie for them.

This might be the movie I have been looking for also.

Here is some of the plot of the movie and tell me if it matches this movie.

At the beginning of the story a cop has a wife/girlfriend that is reading a stephen king book 'the stand' I believe and tells him that it's an old one. This takes place in the future of course. She says the book would be perfect if it was not for the tear of one of the pages.

Cop goes back in time. I remember that he has special glasses that he used it instant scratch off tickets to get money.

He saves the day, but ends up getting stuck in the past (1980's)

At the end, he is at a library and takes The Stand off the bookshelp and it drops and tears the exact same page of the book. He then leaves a note for his wife/girlfriend telling her that he is stuck there.

Is this the same movie?

You describe key scenes in this movie exactly but the book was not Stephen King's The Stand it was Shakespeare's Love Sonnets.

The Metal Man From Titan

"Till All Are One!"

If I recall, the book was the only one to survive a fire at the library.

I loved that alternative to handcuffs he had... it was like a 'shrink-wrap gun' and the bad guy was wrapped up in a way that he could still breathe but he couldn't use his arms or legs.

Yep, I saw this on TV when I was 13, and I loved it. I was also a big fan of time-travel stories (probably also because of BTTF), and I agree with you--I bet kids would still enjoy it today, even if it hasn't aged too well.
