Prostitute/Tattoo artist?

I can't help but wonder about this character. They never really explored her in detail. Seemed almost pointless. The first time you see her she's being shoved around by some trucker, which confused me because they never went back to that. Then of course there's the scene where she takes off for seemingly no reason, saying there was "too much hope" (or harmony.. still not entirely sure).

All this just left me wanting to know more. Why was her character so disregarded? As though she didn't matter. Kind of bothered me actually. Any thoughts on this?

I didn't see the point of her even being in the movie, she was ignored throughout the entire film

"Oh Blanche? You know we got rats in the cellar"

I need to go back and watch this movie again because I remember that. It was odd she was a prostitute in this out-in-nowhere town and motel.
