difference between Out of Rosenheim and Bagdad Cafe

Is there a difference between Out of Rosenheim and Bagdad Cafe? Are there different versions?

reply

"Out of Rosenheim" is the original German title (yes, in English) of the same film that was called "Bagdad Café" for the English language release. The only difference I could make out is the runtime: the German version is 108 minutes as compared to 95 of the US version (don't know what has been cut). The film was shot in English and I prefer this version over the dubbed German one. But these are the only differences I noticed.

Could the running time difference be explained simply by the different video formats, ie. NTSC vs. PAL?

Namaste, and good luck.

No, that would be too much of a difference. I'm quite sure there must be something missing from the English language version.

Why would there be a runtime difference between NTSC and PAL?

Lucy:Was the music too loud?
Dr. Carter: No, the furniture was too on fire.

NTSC and PAL run at different speeds, the equivalent to about one frame a second I believe.

Kinski Twist is right, therefore a difference of about 3 or 4 minutes runtime is normal, but if the difference is larger, you can safely assume that something's been cut - so in Bagdad Café it looks as there were about 10 minutes removed from the American version.

My copy is named Baghdag Cafe, but has a runtime on 104 mins, is this yet another version?

Are you sure that the film has been shot in England? Because Bagdad Cafe actually exists on Route 66 in USA, so I've always believed that it was shot at that place, however I must say the place in the movie and the real place have some things in diference.

It was shot in "English," the language, not "England," the country. :)

The Swedish DVD version is also 108 minutes and it's not dubbed in German. I don't know what has been cut out in the Region 1 version (maybe the quite long show number in the end?), but the ending is quite abrupt I think.

I have them both. There are more scenes in Out of Rosenheim.
1. Jasmins husband backs the car several times to that wreck the beginning.
2. When sheriff comes to check Jasmin, Rudi first goes for breakfast but then chances his mind and follows Brenda and the sheriff to Jasmin room.
The shoppinglist that Jasmin writes is shorter in Bagdad Cafe.
3. When Jasmin cleans Brendas office, there is no toying with the baby before cleaning.
4. There are fewer scenes where Jasmin poses for Rudiin Bagdad Cafe.
5. The scene where Jasmin and Brenda cuts the womans hand is shorter in BC.
6. Jasmin shows her new tattoo to truck drivers in Out of Rosenheim before she make magic tricks in the cafe.
7. The scene where theu hang up the painting of Jasmin is shortened.
8. When Jasmin comes back she also meets Sal Jr. and the baby in OOR.
9. The magic stick scene is different in each version.
10. Brenda meets Sal at the cafe after the magic scene.
11. Brenda gives a tiny kiss to Jasmin after the magig tricks. A kiss without greater meaning in my opinion.
Here are few things that are different in these two movies. There are more I am sure of that, but from my point of view I think Out of Rosenheim is slightly better.
This is my favorite movie and I'm glad that I have both versions.

Thank you very much for the complete information. I'm not sure which version would be the "better one", but I'd love to see the "Out Of Rosenheim" version, if only because it has extra scenes. Just love the overall 'desolate' atmosphere of the movie.
