Does anybody recognize what kind of cartridges the bear hunters are using?

A friend and I got in a heated discussion as to what kind of ammunition the hunters were using. He says they were using .30-30 WIN and .45 ACP.

I don't know enough about guns and ammo to properly identify what they were using, but I DO know that those calibers didn't exist in 1882.

Is there anybody out there who knows more about this topic that can help us solve this argument?

I do happen to know... I saw this movie many years ago and while most of it is hazy, I seem to remember that the hunters had Model 1873 Winchester rifles. Which were chambered for .44-40 caliber. Their sidearms were Colt Peacemakers, which were .45 long colt or by 1878, .44-40 and interchangable with the Winchester rifles.
