Such A Shame

Such a shame they didn't carry this on as a series of movies, the bromance between Hines & Dafoe is all kinds of awesome. Those guys had real chemistry between them.

I struggle with this film. Not a fan of either Hines or Dafoe that much and I wasn't that interested or compelled by their unlikable, unpleasant, smug characterizations. The film is well made and has an intersting backdrop; but it is an ugly film and it flopped. I don't think 'potential' audiences, were turned on by either of it's stars. The film was retitled SAIGON, for international release.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit back in 1988, and it's one I still go back to periodically. I love the premise and think it would've made for a good series of movies. Now of course I think it'd make for a decent tv series.

According to the screenplay, the original title of the movie was SAIGON. It was retitled to OFF LIMITS here in the U.S. for some reason. Maybe they thought Americans were sick of Vietnam movies at that point.
