Flashbacks Of A Fool

I haven't watched "Cinema Paradiso" (CP) yet but I will soon.

However I have watched, and enjoyed, Daniel Craig's "Flashbacks of a Fool" which has been accused of copying CP.

Has anyone watched both movies? If so any comments, especially on the copying accusation?

Just watched CP: Brilliant movie!

It has similar themes to FOAF: young rejected love; boy leaves small town for the big smoke and becomes famous in the movie industry; returns 2 decades later for a funeral and meets his old love; but that love remains unfulfilled at the end and they separate (forever).

The movies are set in different eras with FOAF set later in the 1970's and 2000's. Hard to say which one is better although I probably prefer FOAF (by a nose) with the differences being that it's in English, set in the UK, and features music that I grew up on (David Bowie, Roxy Music) so it was easier to personally identify with.

Notwithstanding this CP is an excellent movie that tugs at your emotions.

I rank them both 8.5/10.

Yes, I'd rank them both highly. Cinema Paradiso however has a more epic and arty quality to it.

I know it's not labeled as the "classic" that CP is but I actually enjoyed Daniel Craig's film more. I couldn't say that it copies CP but there are a few similarities. However, there may be so many more movies like this that it's hard to call any of them out. If FOF did indeed "copy" CP, they added enough twists and signature moments to make it their own legitimately.

That movie resonated with me. "Cinema Paradiso," not quite as much and I don't think it was due to the subtitles. Maybe it was the old world ways that didn't grab me as much as Craig's story of contemporary adolescence did.
