Most emotional ending in movie history?

I first saw this movie when I was a teen and it's now nearly 30 years later and yet, the ending still makes me weep like a baby. When you think about what it means and how much love it demonstrates, it just gets you on a purely gut/emotional level.

I've watched so many films in my life and I've never had the kind of emotional reaction to an ending as I have with this one.

I wanted to thank you for refreshing my memory regarding this gem. The first time I saw it was years ago in an intimate cinema in Newport, RI. Anyway, I just watched it again and indeed was moved at films end. If the music moved you as well, you should google Pat Metheny Cinema Paradiso. He is a jazz virtuoso. Anyway he and Charlie Haden do a killer version of the music from this film. You can watch them perform the same. Thanks again.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I was extremely moved by it too. It's certainly one of the most emotional movie endings of all time. Other contenders would be e.g. Interstellar, The Mission, Hachi, Schindler's List and The Green Mile.

This movie is too special to me, for reasons that I have decided not to share. It has to be the most romantic, most emotional film ever. I can hear Ennio Morricone's music somewhere and I will start blubbering in a very short time, my breath will quicken, I will start gulping, my eyes water and I turn in mush...

American Beauty and Home Alone always make me cry at the end.
