When the boy gave Alfredo the answers. What kind of test was that?

What a weird question with no purpose at all and if You know what kind what good will that do You?

The purpose of for the edification of the viewer. Also, I'm curious because I haven't seen anything like that before (children writing tests with adults).

Well there was such exams back in the day, also the point of the scene is showing you alfredo was uneducated man.

Alfredo and the other men were there to take the grade school diploma exam. IOW, they had never gone to school, or at least hadn't finish grade school. I suppose that they had been going to night school, or doing independent study, but the state exam was only given at this one time so they had to share room with the kids.
