Releasing this on DVD

How do we fans of this movie get it released on DVD? I used to be able to watch it at least once a month on TBS or some other cable channel, but those days are long gone. And, I do not want to buy VHS anymore. Which company owns this movie, and where can we send requests to get it released on DVD?

reply

It's available on DVD at e-bay.

This movie has never been released on DVD in the US. It has however been released on DVD in Europe. You can find some European versions of the movie such as the German version which have the English audio track. The problem is if you're not in Europe your DVD player probably wont play the movie because most of the time DVDs are region protected and you would need a DVD player that plays European Region 2 DVDs. You also might have the problem if youre in the U.S. because U.S. TVs use the NTSC tv standard while Europe uses the PAL standard. Some DVD players can output both standards but some cant.

Well, I've got this movie on DVD... By the way, I'm from Germany. But there are hardly any special features on the DVD and you can watch the film in English and German only and the subtitles are only in German. I got the DVD on eBay, but I think it is still available in shops and at amazon.de in Germany.

PLEASE as soon as ANYONE finds a link to a Online Petition to get this on DVD, POST IT HERE! I've been looking online for YEARS for one, and no luck. This is one of my favorite 80's movies when I was a kid, and would love to share it with my soon to be wife that missed it back then. Thanks and R.I.P TITO......

you might have to wait awhile before its available on DVD, however why not just record it with your set top dvd recorder? it usually shows on one of the showtime movie networks, such as Flix.

reply

Yeah the best thing would be to record it through a set top dvd recorder or something like tivo when it comes on tv. If you have digital cable or satellite the picture should be pretty good. Like has been said if you are waiting for a US DVD release you may be waiting a long time as it may never be released

its released in australia.

I have it on VHS, but its age is starting to show. I LOVE THIS MOVIE and since I do not have any other option to record it, I will be the first to petition for it whenever it happens. Hope it happens soon.

reply

Yeah, the dvd is a bit harder to get, but now the vhs is available on amazon.com as well as ebay, i just got it from amazon

why don't movies that have stars that become extremely famous, like keanu reeves come out on dvd. you would think it would make everyone wealthier. i would buy this movie on dvd. bring it on.

I got the VHS for $4.00 on Amazon, and the box says the theatrical distributor was Kings Road Entertainment (which hasn't produced a movie since 2001). The VHS distributor was Trimark Home Video, and it too is a now-defunct company.

The distribution rights to this movie must still be up in the air, but one would think a studio out there would pick this movie up.

I wonder if one of the factors holding up the DVD release is the soundtrack, plus the appearance of the totally excellent George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars. Shouldn't be too hard to acquire the right, though, but is there a demand for this film?

Luckily, I found it on VHS in a thrift store for a buck.
