Kind of.
There is a line in the movie that references James Bond.
It's an action/comedy. The comedy is quite dry, it's not a National Lampoon's or anything like that.
The movie has quite a few stunts.
This movie was never made to be taken seriously. I was lucky enough to attend a premiere that Temuera Morrison opened at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington. He talked about wanting everyone to have a good laugh and a good time.
I also remember that the bar was free, and the theatre had technical problems so everyone got very drunk by the time the official ceremony started. After a few choice interjections from the guests, Tem Morrison realised it was getting out of hand and got a little anxious about a surge from the crowd (seating wasn't allocated) and said to the MC "I think we might get swamped here". Someone yelled back, "It won't be by fans, mate."
