Well, I do like to read poetry and sometimes try to write my own, not very well however.
One of my favorite poems is "Because she would ask me why I loved her" by Christopher Brennan.
Or John Keats' letter to To Fanny Brawne 1819, where he declares that "Love is my religion, I could die for love, I could die for you."
And Emily Dickinson's
IT ’S such a little thing to weep,
So short a thing to sigh;
And yet by trades the size of these
We men and women die!
And I have seen Madame Butterfly and am aware of the tragic ending.
But I also think of Turandot the ice princess posing riddles to her many suitors and putting to death(by beheading) all those who answer incorrectly.
Maybe it's just my perspective as a single male looking for a relationship, but all I was trying to say is that I think there are plenty of guys for a girl to choose from, who would be more than happy to be chosen. It is the guy who figuratively risks "losing his head" and being turned down. When was the last time you've heard of a guy turning a girl down, does it even happen? I imagine women do it all the time to well intentioned men. I suppose I've done my fair share of crying over some girl(although I don't really cry) and knowing this I can only wonder why a girl would ever cry over a guy when there are so many who would love to be with them. But anyway...
Finally, in an effort to lighten the mood a bit, with all due respect and good humor intended, people may actually be a bit like matchbox cars. We get together and compare each other, size each other up. Sometimes we look under the hood and examine the finer points/details of each model. And sometimes we smash into one another for fun, but when we go our separate ways we realize the damage that has been done.
Such are the woes of life I suppose, it's all just a part of growing.
