Why ever not?
I'm half Portuguese and I'd be happy to embrace Julia Roberts circa 1988 as one of our own. She doesn't look as WASPy as some other actresses, and the Portuguese are still Europeans, albeit Southern/Latin Europeans, so it's not as if we're that different to Northern Europeans/Anglos like Ms Roberts.
Actually she did look like she could pass for Portuguese with the dark hair, she also has dark eyes. Jo-Jo was the one who looked least Mediterranean of all the sisters but even then there are exceptions to the rule. I have a friend who is 100 per cent Portuguese and he has blond hair and blue eyes. Look at someone like Catherine Zeta Jones who is Welsh but could easily pass for being from Southern Europe.
Many Portuguese ( like myself) are of mixed ethnicity and can pass for many Nationalities . A lot can resemble Irish while others have a more Italian look
