My Stepmother is BRILLIANT

I'm not going to argue "taste." That's why there are 31 flavors of ice-cream at Baskin Robbins - because we all like something different.

But "Stepmother" is exactly my taste. I LOVED THIS FILM. I've seen it five times in the 20 years since it's release - and always as an adult. And it remains in my top 50 comedies of all time.

Kim Bassinger missed a good bet. She makes a fabulous comedienne but only a fair sex goddess. If she'd have played her cards right, she could have been a contender for Lucille Ball, mixing beauty and brains. She clearly upstaged the established Dan Akroyd.

Yes, it borrowed greatly from "Ghost Busters" and "Splash" (with that other beauty who excelled at physical comedy, Daryl Hannah). But what film hasn't borrowed? Plaguerism is actually a compliment. ;-)

"Stepmother" had a huge list of very clever dialogue lines and hilarious sight gags, all blended with a fine sense of pathos, drama and uplifting spirit.

I'm guessing it got such a low score here on IMDB because comedy has steadily been reduced into 10-year old boy masturbation, boobies, and bathroom humor often based on humiliating another.

But if you are one who appreciated the cleverness of "There's Something About Mary" and "Wedding Crashers," you just might like this oldie-but-goodie.
