My Best Friend is a Dhampir. Because thats mostly what is in this movie. They mention that there are undead vamires, but they are living vampires. That means they are Dhampirs. Only a dhampir has the ability to walk into sunlight, but the only difference is these guys were weak against garlic and other items like it.

That's not the case. A Dhampir is created by being born between the union of a Vampire and a Mortal (usually the father's the Vamp). They're not created by a having a Mortal being bitten. That would create a full Vampire, regardless of what affect sunlight has on him/her.
BTW, Dracula in both the original novel and the movie with Gary Oldman as Drac has the Vampire not being harmed at all by sunlight. It just weakens their powers. The whole "sunlight is fatal to a Vampire" was made popular by "Nosferatu," an old black-and-white silent film that was based on the Dracula novel.
However, there were some legends stating that sunlight harms Vampires, but there were mainly legends stating that sunlight doesn't harm them. I guess today's culture doesn't look that far back into legends to see how different it monsters like Vampires and Werewolves have changed in modern times.

True, but then again how many obsessive compulsive vampires do you see in TV and movies now? Or ones that can't cross running water?
There were all kinds of silly rules about vampires in the old myths, it seems like for every cool power they had they also had a corresponding crappy weakness.

In Australia this movie is called "I Was A Teenage Vampire" which I always thought was a better title.
