Condom Advert

In the scene where they are dubbing the condom advert the bride Eugenia is played by Candela. She is Spanish so why does her part need to be dubbed?

I don't know if her part was being dubbed...it might have just seemed that way since the other parts were being dubbed...and I just thought to myself, maybe it wasn't even Candela...?

reply

Yes, it is Candela and she is being dubbed, probably because her accent is too marked as Andalusian, so it doesn't really work on national TV... Pepa has a more neutral accent

reply

Most likely they were looping the lines because the Live audio didn't
sound so good. If you look at the priest's lips he is speaking Spanish as well.

They do that in Movies all the time: See "Code inconnu"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216625/

There is a scene where Juliette Binoche is looping her own lines
for the movie that her actress character is making.

It doesn´t have to make any sense, it´s just a way to introduce Candela

reply

It does have to make sense. What in the world's wrong with you?

reply

It was typical in Europe then to shoot things MOS (silent), especially on location, and dub in sound later. It's a lot cheaper, and it allows for sales and/or use in foreign countries. Italy, for example, used to shoot all of their movies silent and dub them later.

the ad client preferred the look of the actress on the screen, but the voice of Pepa, and simply would not have it any other way

does that work for you?

Who cares about stairs? The main thing is ice cream.

reply

Yes, they do it in films all the time, but it's not that common in adverts.
