We're taking it with us!

I had seen the movie somewhere sometime and had always remembered Pryor, Quaid, and the laughing house sellers. Thought this was a great movie.

I just saw it for the first time in years and realized that the seller said "We're taking it with us, just joking" a lot more than he admitted to in the movie. Most of the house should have remained untouched.

Am I right? Or can someone justify why so much of the house is gone. I know the seller claims he has the transcripts, but I'd just like to hear another's opinions.

Usually under law, anything that is permanently attached to the house must be sold whith the house, light fixtures, stoves, fridges, stairs, pools, siding etc.
I think that Arlo has a hell of a lawsuit against these cagey thieves, in real life, not movie life necessarily.

Stairs and siding, yes, refrigerators and stoves, no. Appliances do not have to be sold with the house unless there is an agreement to do so. Stoves and refrigerators are not permanently attached to the house. They are plugged in, just like your computer or television.

If I were Arlo in that situation I would bring serious hell down on those sellers, I'm not even kidding. Wow, I'd be furious, and that's putting it mildly.

This was always my favorite part of the movie. I moved a lot as a kid and my dad loved this movie. He’d often joke “We’re taking it with us.” Joke when our homes were up for sale. It embarrassed me as a teenager but I remember it fondly now
